Trip Description

Situated on both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, Nicaragua boasts some of the most astounding volcanoes, pristine lakes, exquisite beaches, and impressive mountains of the Americas. Despite its natural beauty, “The Land of Lakes and Volcanoes” has also suffered much civil unrest, corruption, and natural disasters over the past several decades to now be recognized as the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. The poverty, hardships, and instability are great, but there’s a wide-open door to sharing the Gospel with the people.

ABWE’s mission is to fulfill the Great Commission by multiplying leaders, churches, and missions movements among every people. Therefore, it is always our intention to provide clinical care and evangelism through the local churches. In cooperation with local pastors, we will be conducting basic medical clinics alongside church members to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the Nicaraguans. Non-medical participants may help in triage, taking patient histories, working in the pharmacy, sharing the Gospel, or even children’s ministry, depending upon the number of trip members.

Team Members Needed

The team can be a balance of medical and non-medical personnel. The ideal number ranges from 3-12 members. It’s necessary to have at least 2 medical providers who are able to treat patients (physician, PA, or NP, for example) and at least 1 nurse.

Licensed medical professionals need to submit notarized copies of their license, diploma, and CV at least 3 months before the trip dates.

Ministry Support Funds: $1,625/per participant

Ministry support funds cover all local travel, food, lodging, and supplies used throughout the trip. A $100 fee is required upon team placement. The balance is submitted 45 days prior to departure. Funds may be submitted by the team participant or by others on their behalf.

Airfare: ~$950-$1,750

Each participant is responsible for purchasing their own airfare, which typically ranges from $700 to $1,300. Travel information will be provided by the team leader to ensure everyone on the team arrives at the same time in the country of destination.

Miscellaneous Expenses: $150-$270

A $15 visa is paid for upon entry to the country. There may also be personal costs toward a passport, vaccinations, etc. (Currently, there are no required vaccinations to enter Nicaragua.) Once an individual is assigned to a team, an email is sent outlining further details for any other requirements.
