August 2017 AR3 small

This past weekend I was reminded of the urgency of our mission as Christians to proclaim the gospel of Christ and make Him known in our local area, nationally, and around the globe. This reminder came in the form of a horrific accident that has affected my family greatly over the past several days and will continue to affect us for as long as the Lord gives us breath.

On Friday, August 4th, my beautiful niece was married to a wonderful young man, and on Saturday, August 5th, this young godly couple, who loved the Lord, were involved in a car accident that would eventually take both of their lives. Rebekah and Austin met on a mission’s trip in South Africa. Their desire to serve the Lord and make Him known around the world led them to meet and fall in love. Now, they are both in the presence of their Lord and Saviour and their joy is unfathomable.

Oh, what a reminder of the brevity of life to those of us on this earth. Our time on this earth is fleeting and our time to witness to those who do not know the Lord is also short. James 4:14 – “ . . . What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” I know that I sometimes need the reminder that our job as Christians is to proclaim Christ, and it is easy to lose our focus on God’s kingdom.

Thank you for your support of missions around the world and your desire to make Jesus known to all the nations. As well, let us commit to prayer and keeping our focus on Jesus and the dissemination of the gospel throughout every area of the world because it is still the power of the gospel that changes hearts and transforms lives.

In conclusion, I want to leave you with two verses that Rebekah’s younger sister wrote on the tree that their vehicle impacted to end their lives on this earth.

“HE will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and no death shall be, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, for . . . ‘I AM MAKING ALL things NEW.’” – Revelation 21:4,5

In His Service,

Minne Bouma
